We make things that need to exist.

Streamline is a product design and engineering studio in Telangana. We take a problem - usually handed to us already described as a product - and return a physical object a factory can make, a person can repair, and someone is genuinely worse off without.

01Why we’re hereDesigning together - for people, progress, and the planet.

Why

Most of what people are sold was never designed for them.

Products get shaped by what is cheap to tool, what demos well, what fits last year’s line. The person holding it comes last. We start there instead - in the place the problem lives, in the words the user already has for it.

Belief

A good product only a few people can buy is unfinished.

Accessibility is not a feature added at the end. If the honest version of a design is out of reach for the people it is for, the design is not done - the price, the parts and the repair path are part of the drawing.

Model

Designers and engineers at one table from the first week.

Form and manufacturing method are decided together, in the same meeting. Slower to start, far faster to finish - the geometry never has to be walked back because a vendor said no.

02What we doSix capabilities. Each one is easier to show than to describe.

  • Industrial designGeometry pushed until a named factory could make it.Pen Hive→
  • Product engineeringA control stack where every layer was a decision, not a default.Camera Rig→
  • PrototypingThe first prototype’s job is to fail where failure is cheap.Thotha→
  • Design for manufactureThe form and the method, worked out in the same pass.Kage→
  • ResearchEvery constraint mapped and named before a direction is fixed.Camera Rig→
  • Field testingDropped, soaked, misused and lived with by someone who did not design it.Thotha→

03In the room

  • CNC machining
  • 3D printing
  • Sheet-metal fabrication
  • Electronics & firmware
  • Assembly
  • Field testing

04The filterAny one “no” and we say so, before the project starts.

  • 01UnderstoodWe can describe the problem in the words the user already uses, and the description survives contact with the place it came from.Rejected - a brief that arrives with the answer already in it.
  • 02BuildableA named vendor can make it, at a price fixed in the same meeting as the geometry, from parts that already exist near the people using it.Rejected - a form that only a render allows.
  • 03ReliableIt has been dropped, soaked, misused and lived with by someone who did not design it, and we hold the evidence rather than the intention.Rejected - a launch date that arrives before the evidence.
  • 04ResponsibleIt opens with a tool the owner already has, it is repaired by the shop nearest them, and nothing in it depends on the product dying.Rejected - a sealed product with a consumable lock.
  • 05NecessarySomeone is worse off without it. If the honest answer is that the object does not need to exist, we say so and stop.Rejected - work whose only purpose is a new model year.

05The roomA small, senior team. The people who scope a project are the people who build and test it - nothing is thrown over a wall.

  • 01Design leadOwns the form and the user’s side of the brief - decides what the object is.
  • 02Product & mechanical engineeringOwns tolerances, loads and the path from a shape to a made part.
  • 03PrototypingTurns the current drawing into something you can hold and break, fast.
  • 04Manufacturing & DFMStands inside the vendor’s shop; fixes the price and the process against the geometry.
  • 05Software & controlsWhen the object has to be driven, owns the stack that drives it.

06What we valueFive words that show up as decisions, not as posters.

  • IngenuityCuriosity turned into a working part. We would rather solve it than specify it.
  • EmpathyThe brief is rewritten in the user’s words before anyone sketches.
  • SustainabilityFewer parts, repairable, no consumable locks. Design for keeping.
  • AccessibilityThe honest version has to be buyable and fixable by the people it is for.
  • CollaborationDesign, engineering, making and testing in one room, in the same week.
